Evernote iPhone App - forget those sticky notes now!

Dear iPhone

Thank you so much for being so incredibly useful! You truly are my spare brain. Today I had to race out the door and I tried after my bad experience on Friday to grab pen and paper just in case something happened while I was outdoors and would be unable to snap photos for any reason. Stupidly I wrote down the wrong phone number or wrote so badly I couldn't read what the numbers were. Hopeless! I was however completely happy when I realised that I had send the information I needed to a note in Evernote on my desktop. I went into the Evernote iPhone app, let it sync and download any changes and voila there was my note with all the information and phone numbers I needed to complete a small but urgent job while I was out.

The Evernote iPhone application has been around for some time but I am now finding the latest version the most exciting of all. The landscape view of notes is fabulous and the app seems very stable and much quicker to access important bits.

Thanks for saving my bacon this time!

Battery Saving Tips for the iPhone

One question I am often asked is how to stop the iPhone's battery draining so quickly!
The official word from Apple is here and of course contains the usual advice of turning off wireless, going into airplane mode in a low-signal area, minimizing location based services, checking email less frequently, dimming the screen and turning off 3G.

When I need to preserve the battery so that I am able to make and receive calls at the very least I do all of Apple's suggestions but have noticed lately that the one precaution that really does make the most difference is lowering the screen brightness to it's darkest setting.

Adjust brightness: Dimming the screen is another way to extend battery life. Go to Settings > Brightness and drag the slider to the left to lower the default screen brightness. In addition, turning on Auto-Brightness allows the screen to adjust its brightness based on current lighting conditions. Go to Settings > Brightness and set Auto-Brightness to On.

iPhone screen shot reminder system

There might be occasions when you need a shot of something on your iPhone. The most common reason might be that you find something either on the web, on twitter, in the application store or inside an application that requires you to remember to do something - an error inside an application for instance.What you could do especially if you are without pen and paper is take a screen shot then email it to yourself as a reminder.

Hold down the power switch and the home button at the same time - the picture will go to your photo library ready for sending by email with a note about what has to be done if necessary.
